In addition to the Winter Olympics, visitors to Pyeongchang are also able to experience two festivals that are taking place at the same time. The Pyeongchang Trout Festival, held in the town of Jinbu, opened in December and features a number of different events including ice and lure fishing, snow rafting, ATV riding, and sleigh trains.
The Daegwallyeong Snow Festival is another popular tourist attraction. The festival has been held annually since 1993 and provides visitors with a chance to carve their own snow sculptures. Pyeongchang County is also hosting its annual Trout Festival this year. The festival, which runs from Dec. 22 – Feb. 25, gives visitors the opportunity to participate in a variety of different activities, including ice fishing, tent fishing, and even catching fish with one’s bare hands. This particular species of trout can be found in rivers that flow into the East Sea, including in Gangwon Province, North Korea, Siberia, and Japan. (provided by Pyeongchang County)
