Coffee Street in Gangneung City is the main thoroughfare of the first district in South Korea dedicated exclusively to coffee. In 2000, Park Lee-chu, who was the first coffee roaster in Korea and had operated the “Bohemian” coffee shop in the Hyehwa neighborhood Seoul since the early 1980s, relocated to Gangneung. This combined with the establishment of the Greek-themed “Terra Rosa” coffee shop in 2002 were monumental events in the establishment of the district. Today, there are about 30 coffee shops in the area, along with a coffee museum, coffee factory, and a barista academy. Visitors can sip coffee while enjoying a scenic view of the East Sea.
