@The Attorney
The current hit film
The Attorney has remained first at the daily box office every day over the last four weeks and after cracking the all time top 10 over the weekend, it has now climbed to number nine on the chart as of the evening of Monday, January 13th.
The film, from debut director Yang Woo-suk, stars Song Kang-ho as an attorney in Busan during the 1980s who switches gears to become a human rights lawyer when he becomes involved in a special case. Song’s character is based on the early years of the late president Roh Moo-hyun.
Following the weekend of January 10th to 12th, the hit film pushed Han Jae-rim’s
The Face Reader off the all time box office chart. By January 13th,
The Attorney eclipsed the total of Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer to take over ninth place on the list. Song also appeared in those previous films that were both released in the last six months. As of January 14th the film has been seen by 9.46 million people and is still occupying first place on the daily chart.
The Attorney is expected to break the ten million admissions mark this coming weekend and industry observers are now wondering if the film can overtake the Hollywood hit
Avatar (2009), which occupies first place on the all time chart with 13.3 million admissions. Though the film is running about a week ahead of James Cameroon’s blockbuster, the influx of Lunar New Year releases in the coming weeks make it unlikely that the film will make it that far.
